About pdftoword.in
pdftoword.in is a free online tool that converts PDF documents into editable Microsoft Word (.docx) files — instantly, without requiring any account, software installation, or payment.
Our Mission
We believe that document conversion should be simple, free, and accessible to everyone. Whether you are a student editing a downloaded study guide, a professional repurposing a report, or a small business owner digitizing contracts — you should not need an expensive subscription to accomplish a basic task.
pdftoword.in was built in India to serve a global audience with a single goal: give everyone the best PDF-to-Word conversion experience in the browser, for free.
How the Converter Works
When you upload a PDF, it is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our backend server. We use pdf2docx, an open-source Python library, to analyse the PDF's structure — text blocks, tables, images, and drawing objects — and reconstruct them faithfully inside a Word document. The resulting .docx file is then streamed directly back to your browser for download.
Both the original PDF and the converted Word file are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers within one hour of upload. We do not read, analyse, log, or retain the content of your documents.
What Sets Us Apart
- Completely free — no hidden tiers, no watermarks, unlimited conversions
- No account required — open the page and start converting immediately
- Privacy by design — files are processed automatically and deleted after one hour
- Accurate formatting — tables, headings, columns, and images are preserved
- Mobile-friendly — works on any device and any modern browser
- Fast — most conversions complete in under 10 seconds
Supported File Types
Currently, pdftoword.in supports converting standard text-based PDF files (up to 25 MB) to Microsoft Word .docx format. Scanned PDFs may produce limited text results; we recommend using an OCR tool first for image-only pages.
Technology Stack
Our service is built on a modern, open-source technology stack:
- Backend: Python 3.11, FastAPI, pdf2docx — running on a secure cloud server
- Frontend: Next.js 14 (React), Tailwind CSS — served via Vercel's global CDN
- Infrastructure: HTTPS enforced end-to-end, Cloudflare for DDoS protection and CDN
